Sunday, July 5th, 2009

From the blog:

Although the Modern Whig movement was initially revived by veterans, this grassroots organization is geared toward all who value rational solutions in a manner that is realistic, non-fringe and avoids partisan bickering and ideology. With a headquarters in Washington, DC and a growing list of state chapters, we invite you to see what we are all about.

Modern Whigs: Please cull the wackadoodles

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Here’s a good rule of thumb: When someone mentions in a post on a blog or forum that they are “not normally a believer in conspiracies, but … ” you can rest assured that the poster is a wackadoodle and is going to spew forth a particularly idiotic conspiracy theory. No fact or argument presented to refute said theory will dissuade the original poster that his little theory is wrong. And soon, 90 percent of the replies will be from the original poster.

And that’s what happened on this thread on a Modern Whig Party forum. Basically, it’s a regurgitation of the Obama-isn’t-a-Citizen complaint that’s making the rounds. It’s all factually disproven bullshit, of course. Not that it matters, because no matter what argument is made against this theory, the response is that, well, it’s a conspiracy and if you look deeper, you will find the truth.

Hey, Whigs: You have GOT to keep this conspiracy crap off your forums and blogs. These people do not give a FIG about building your party or its platform. They see the MWP as a forum to spread their fantasies. The more this stuff appears on YOUR forums, the more the public assumes that is what the MWP is all about.

My advice: Delete these posts and comments as soon as your see them. Be merciless. If the Constitution Party and Libertarian Party want these idiots, let them have ‘em.

Modern Whig video

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

It’s just a promotional video, but it will open some eyes, I think.

The Big Two are competing against each other, and not really concerned abut the nation as much as promoting their brand.

The other “third” parties are more concerned about narrow points of ideology.

I think the Modern Whigs have a shot, it they stay strong and avoid being used by crackpots.

Modern Whigs continue growth spurt

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

The Modern Whig Party continues it’s rise.

In Texas, via The Whig:

The Modern Whig Party of Texas is deepening its grass roots by naming the first six county chairmen. These individuals are taking the lead in their communities in organizing the Modern Whigs.

The counties of Bell, Denton, El Paso, Fort Bend, Houston and Walker counties now have their own county Modern Whig parties.

Whigs nationwide have attracted leaders from a wide range of backgrounds, and the same is true in Texas.

The Modern Whig Party was inundated with new members — both military and civilian — after the election. As we near our next goal of 20,000 members, this grassroots movement continues to be widely recognized as the fastest-growing mainstream political organization in the country.

And the blog We Are the Neowhigs makes note of doings in Virginia.

Modern Whigs making plans for 2009 campaigns

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Note: The following note was sent out to members of the Modern Whig Party:

To the members of the Modern Whig Party,

With 2009 just around the corner, a lot is going on with the Modern Whig Party. We continue to attract countless new members from all walks of life and political affiliation. We now are also up to 25 official state chapters. In addition, a team of professional political “heavy hitters” deeply rooted in the process have signed on to assist in some behind-the-scenes efforts to better promote our movement. As such, please expect in the coming months some changes to our national Web site and higher-impact campaigns that will compliment our existing message and longterm strategy.

Get into the campaign: Groundwork also is being laid for our 2009 campaigns. The first relates to Target Fairfax. Our organization will focus the energy of thousands of service members, veterans and non-military alike as we work to expand this mainstream, non-ideological and common-sense grassroots organization into the Northern Virginia region. We chose this region as our first focal point because it is the most populated county in Virginia and in the shadow of Washington, DC. This means that the media and national political groups and individuals will be paying attention. In fact, this is how we have already attracted our anonymous “heavy hitters.”

But to succeed, we will need your help. We are not asking for your money as we are planning some unique and innovative specific fundraising events in 2009. Instead, we are seeking interested members who may wish to offer some tactical support. This means sending emails to select Fairfax County and Washington, DC media outlets. Telling them about our grassroots movement. Explain how the Modern Whig Party was founded by Iraq and Afghanistan veterans as a veterans advocacy organization before spiraling into the mainstream. Inform them that this increasingly-growing national movement is converging on the area. Tell them that we are for common-sense solutions.

Bottom line is that if our national membership can work together to keep up the pressure and exposure, our ground team can work to pull this off. To participate, please contact our Virginia team at virginia@modernwhig.org. Also, certainly contact us if you live in the DC metro area and want to play a localized role.

Candidates: In the near future, please expect an email from our candidates in Virginia and elsewhere explaining their credentials. All of our candidates will work to not only get elected, but also to promote our movement. If any member wishes to run for office in 2009 with the backing of our national party, please contact us.

Best regards,

Executive Committee
The Modern Whig Party

Modern Whigs make history by electing their first canidate

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

Via Independent Political Report, voters in Lee County, Alabama have elected Ken Belcher as an Alabama Constable; a position similar to a county sheriff in that it is an elected peace officer, but is often unpaid. Belcher becomes the MW’s first member elected to public office under the party banner.

“It is fitting that our first member elected to public office is on the local level in a somewhat antiquated position,” said Mike Lebowitz, National Chairman of the Modern Whig Party. “Since the national election last night, our movement has been and continues to be inundated with new members ranging from the Republican, Democratic and Libertarian parties. We will continue to build off of these small victories as we follow our longterm strategy toward our first organized attempt to seek a handful of state and local races in 2009.”

Kudos to Belcher.

Modern Whigs explained

Friday, November 7th, 2008

The Modern Whig Party has chapters in 23 of the 50 states now. The party saw a surge in new memberships after the election ended, according to this article. This media blogger has as good explanation as any for the group’s platform, which takes common-sense middle of the road approach on many issues.

As a friend of mine said, “It’s like their platform is talking to me like it’s my pal.”
