Jk,

You bring up a good point, but if you look at the Modern Whig Party issues page, it includes a somewhat brief "detailed vision." This is where they expand upon their common sense argument. In fact, they actually say the same thing you do about how things are vastly different in different parts of the state. I recommend a quick read at modernwhig.org/issues.html as while you may not agree with everything they say, it will at least provide a bit more substance.

I'm desperate for a viable alternative to the Big Two parties, but this highlights a pet peeve of mine...

Two key phrases: "common sense" and "smarter".
When a politician says *they* are going to be different, because *they* are going to exercise "common sense," or that *they* are going to be different, because *they* are going to do things "smarter," I always cringe. This is the worst sort of fluff, and pandering to the masses.

"Common Sense" means a heck of a lot of different things, to different people. Talk to people in a small town in Texas, to people living in Manhattan, and people living in Los Angeles, and you'll get wildly different versions of what each thinks is "common sense." Ditto that on what is considered "smart" or not. But, hearing this rhetoric, people from each locale will all nod their heads in unison. It's a nifty trick of rhetoric, but it has no more substance than Obama's mantra of "Change"...
