Alan Keyes wants Obama decertified (UPDATED)

On November 13, Alan Keyes and his vice-presidential running mate in California, Reverend Wiley Drake, and other members of the American Independent Party, filed a new lawsuit over Barack Obama’s eligibility to be president. Keyes v Bowen, Superior Court, Sacramento, 34-2008-80000096-cu-wm-gds.
Unlike other lawsuits about the eligibility of either John McCain or Obama to serve as president, this case has a presidential candidate plaintiff. All the other cases have been dismissed because the plaintiffs were said to lack standing. This is the first case with a presidential candidate-plaintiff.
It’s all about the rumors that Obama wasn’t born in the United States.Or that he’s not a citizen because his dad wasn’t an American. Whatever. His mother was an American. It’s nonsense, of course. And there’s no way that ANY court would rule against Obama at this point.

As Weigel points out, Keyes is actually the sanest person actively involved in pushing this conspiracy theory. Phil Berg is a 9/11 truther, Andy Martin once ran for Congress (as a Democrat) in order “exterminate Jew power.” More interesting is what has happened to Keyes. He was once an interesting conservative thinker, even if he lacked the people skills for electoral politics. But the Obama-Keyes Senate race seems to have been a sad turning point in the former Reagan administration official’s career.

Part of your analysis is missing. While it has been shown that Obama’s Hawaiian birth certificate is undoubtedly authentic and he was indeed born in Hawaii and not Kenya, there is more to the story. His mother re-married a man from Indonesia and formally naturalized to that country. Questions now arise. Did Obama also naturalize, as it seems likely because only Indonesian citizens were allowed to attend the school that he attended. Did he have duel citizenship? Again not likely, as at the time Indonesia did not recognize duel citizenship. Did Obama repatriate to the U.S.? The answer is definitely no, and there is no record of this happening.
While in Indonesia, Barack used his step fathers’ name Soetoro. When he returned to the U.S. he returned to using Obama. It seems as though he is trying to ignore/forget his time in Indonesia.
There are legitimate questions, but I think at this point that overturning the election on a technicality would cause a general breakdown in American society.

Can a parent de-naturalize their own child? I don’t think so. It’s a certainty that Obama did not decide on his own as an adult to renounce his citizenship. He has spent most of his adult life doing things citizens do. Hence, complaining he ZMIGHT not be a legal citizen is wishful thinking.

Where are you getting this hokum that only Indonesian citizens are allowed to attend “the school he attended”?
Your sources might need to check their facts, or their noggin.
PS: Obama attended two schools in Indonesia between the ages of 6 and 10. Two years at the public school that was the subject of the false “Insight” magazine hit job last year and two years at a local school run by the Catholic Church.
When are anti-Obama partisans going to start claiming that he had to be a Catholic in order to attend that second Indonesian school?
PPS: How does one seem “as though he is trying to ignore/forget his time in Indonesia” if he has written about that time in his books and spoken about it extensively while on the campaign trail for the last year-and-a-half?
He can’t be ignoring it if he’s talking about it… Sheesh. That’s like trying to claim he’s a radical Muslim who attends a racist Christian church… or that he’s proposing center-right conservative policies despite being a wild-eyed Marxist socialist.
These common refrains from the anti-Obama crowds are symptoms of Obama Derangement Syndrome, one and all.
