No Libertarians on the Illinois ballot in 2006?

Cal Skinner also reports on the decision of the Libertarian Party of Illinois to not field a slate of candidates for state-wide offices in 2006.
Cal says they lacked the money because of the absense of two large donors from the past didn’t contrubute. Also, the state requires a massive number of sitnatures on ballots petitions, which has always been a problem.
There’s also the fact that even if they do collect enough signatures, someone is going to challenge them and they have no allies in state government to help them.
One one hand, this is horrible news. We need more choices, not less.
On the other, maybe this might convince libertarians to focus on local races.
And the news gets worse: Peoria’s own Jeff Trigg is no longer the party’s executive director.
Damnation.
Does this mean there won’t be any Libertarians on the ballot? The LP usually doesn’t pick candidates through primary elections. Can someone pick up some petitions and gather signatures anyway?
